A Message from the President of HVA
HVA is growing rapidly and there is an increasing need for more individuals to get involved with the development of this national organization by playing a leadership role in the work of the association. Several individuals have expressed an interest in taking responsibility for establishing directorships in geographical regions to provide strategic direction that meets the specific needs of those regions and helping to strengthen local programs and services.
The management of volunteers is a profession of growing importance that is requiring a broadening skill set. As the baby-boomer generation begins to overload the healthcare system, hospice volunteerism will become even more highly recognized as the selfless act of compassion that it is. As hospice grows and the number of volunteers needed to serve our society increases, good volunteer management skills will become even more critical. Volunteer managers need to come together and identify programs and resources that will help them grow professionally and use HVA to achieve those ends.
The commitment and dedication of members to this association will be the key to the continued development of meaningful and useful programs that will assist volunteer managers in their jobs and further the volunteer management profession. Being involved in HVA can make a world of difference in your professional life as well as your personal life – building of self-confidence, enhancing organization skills, and improving communication skills. Only by working together as a team to maintain and go beyond the ideas and ideals that were laid down in the foundation of this organization can we continue our commitment to excellence and become the best volunteer professionals possible.
